[koh-lah-chee]

-Have you ever had a Kolache?

-A whatee?

-A Kolache.

Daniel described them to me as a fancy pig-in-a-blanket: a hot dog wrapped in dough. But they can also have different kinds of fillings. Daniel was introduced to them at work by the locals. Imagine walking into a Duncan Donuts shop and standing before a wall of baskets filled with various flavors of donuts. That's pretty much how Kolache Factory is set up. With filiings from Italian Chicken to Bacon Egg & Cheese to Fruit, it was hard to decide.

I had a Jalepeno & Cheese and it was quite tasty. Daniel had a Sausage, Egg & Cheese. They will even warm your Kolaches up for you.

Family Night

This week for family night we decided to go to the Museum of Natural Science. We were both wowed by the enormous dinosaur skeletons. It's amazing to think that creatures that large and that strange actually lived.

We really went to go see the Body Worlds exhibit. Honestly I was very apprehensive. I have been fascinated by this exhibit ever since I heard about it, but I've always been too scared to go to one. I don't like gross stuff. I once had to walk past the anatomy lab on BYU campus and I was terrified that I'd accidentally see something I didn't want to see. But Daniel wanted to go and my curiosity got the better of me.

I must say that it wasn't that bad. The plastination process they use really does make the organic material look plastic - so that's what I kept telling myself throughout the whole thing - "it's just plastic." I'll admit that at certian points it was harder to convince myself of that fact so I just hurried on by to the next section. I am glad we went. My advice to those of you who are curious but scared: Go. Just tell yourself it is plastic. And you can choose what you want to look at what you want to just cruise on by.

Our Humble Abode

I've been trying for the past couple weeks to post this little video tour of our apartment here in Houston, but I met with little success until today. Daniel is much smarter at all things technological and he knew exactly how to make it work. So here you go; this is where we live.

The Weekend

Our first full weekend in Houston. It was great to be able to spend so much time together after the busy week we both had. Friday night we went to the Aquarium and it was lots of fun. We went pretty late at night so there wasn't a lot of people there and it was nice just to relax and enjoy the experience - especially after the stress of trying to actually get there, what should have taken about 15 minutes ended up taking over an hour :) But we're sure learning all the streets of Houston!

Saturday morning we headed off to the Space Center.

That was fun too but not quite as cool as I would have hoped.

From the Space Center we went to an area called the Heights and met up with Daniel's "Buddy" and his wife for lunch at a small BBQ place called Hickory Hollow. It was mighty tasty. There's one thing for sure, Texas has it's BBQ down.

Saturday night we decided to venture out to Super Wal-mart because we hadn't done any grocery shopping since we'd gotten here. Again, it's only like 3.5 miles from where we live but it took like 30 minutes to get there. Traffic in this city is crazy! Well, and we were driving past The Galleria which aparently is one of the biggest malls in these good old United Status of America and we're told that people even plan trips from out of country to shop here.

Goodbye Utah...

Hello Houston...

After celebrating a wonderful Christmas in Ohio with my family, we finally made it back to Utah late on the 30th. Just in time to finish packing, load the car, and ring in a quick New Year with Daniels' family.

We arrived in Houston on Saturday without incident. I proceeded to get horribly sick and quickly discovered one of the beauties of working from home. Although it did make it much more tempting with the bed right there.

So far I haven't gotten out much with Daniel's training going late each night and I've been putting in about 10-11 hours of work each day. I promise we'll have some adventures to entertain you with soon!
